You Have a Buddy, It's Name Is Science

Science Buddies, a wonderfully expansive resource for Science teachers of all types, has announced a science contest for students in grades 6-12, focusing on projects that will encourage girls and young women to pursue careers in Chemistry. Both boys and girls are encouraged to enter. The deadline is April 1, 2012. Richard Bryne also recently wrote about Science Buddies' Career page on this Free Technology For Teachers Blog. He feels that it would be a great resource for students (and guidance counselors) who are interested in the Sciences, but are unsure of the careers that are out there.

Fitness Apps in Phys Ed

Dylan Blain of The Physical Education Teacher Blog writes about using iPod Touches loaded with Map My Fitness apps to track students' fitness progress. Having currently just started the project, he hopes that this system will work well for goal-setting, and provide extra motivation that some may need to reach those goals. Read about his experience with it here.

Making Conference Notes Digital

Have you ever wondered how to make your reading and writing conferences go paperless? Is there an app for that? Stacey at Two Writing Teachers was wondering the same after a reader contacted her about a conferring app. Since the reader wasn't happy with any apps available, she created her own digital conferring notebook from Microsoft Excel. See this amazing and detailed piece of technology that could streamline your conferring and your assessments.

App Of the Week: iAmerica

For those students who need United States history information at their fingertips, this free app can deliver! iAmerica contains extensive information on U.S Presidents, government offices and bureaus, and congressional information. Available in the iTunes store for iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad.
